Christ offers us a gift of joy. Jesus specifically singles out two things in which he takes joy: (1) when we use a gift we have in service to the lord; and (2) when we repent of some failure to serve the lord. Receiving Christ's gift of joy is largely a matter of coming to share in his response to these two kinds of actions we can perform.
