Happiness is tied to happenings, or circumstances. As circumstances go up and down in daily life, so does our level of happiness. But Christian joy is deeper, more settled, and enduring in the face of life's up and downs. Jesus connect this joy to our experience of faithfully serving God, when we know that we have made use of our spiritual gifts and opportunities, so that God can say of us, "Well done, my good and faithful servant."
