Jesus’s Rejection in Nazareth

Preacher:
Passage: Luke 4: 14-30

After Jesus's baptism and temptation in the wilderness, he begins his adult ministry by returning to his hometown of Nazareth. He attends the synagogue and reads a passage from the prophet Isaiah. Everything seems so positive: a hometown boy reading a beautiful passage about liberation. But after reading and then briefly commenting on the passage, the crowd at the synagogue are enraged and rush Jesus out to the edge of town in order to kill him. What in the world has gone wrong?! Jesus has actually given a tough message to his fellow Nazarenes, and it's a tough (but needed!) message for our time of turmoil today.
