The Need for a Modern-Day Methodist Movement
Nearly 30 years ago, two well known political commentators--Roger Starr and George Will--both commented that what our country most needs is a modern-day John Wesley and Methodist-type movement. Though these two writers were from opposite ends of the political spectrum--and neither one a Methodist or even a practicing Christian--they both looked back at the history of England and how Wesley and the early Methodists helped save England from violent revolution and civil war. What was the original "Methodist movement"? And why might it hold the key to transforming our own country in this current time of division and conflict?
