God the Son's act of coming to earth in the person of Jesus was an act of pure love. When we follow his example to act lovingly (even when we don't have loving feelings), the promise of the Holy Spirit is to begin to pour into us the warmth and loving feelings of God's heart. We find ourselves, with Mary in the Magnificat, saying, "My soul doth magnify the Lord, and my spirit rejoices in God my Savior."
